Statement on the English Standard Version

Adopted 12/3/06

• The original manuscripts of scripture are inerrent, infallible, and inspired by God.

• Today, we do not have the original manuscripts of scripture in the original languages of Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic.

• We do have copies of the original.

• When scripture is written in another language, it is called a translation.

• Translations are not perfect because all languages are not created equal.

• Translations have to deal with idioms and cultural issues.

• A literal translation attempts to translate "word for word." (NASB, KJV, ESV)

• A dynamic-equivalent translation attempts to translate "thought for thought." (NIV, NLT, CEV)

Our Conclusion

• Wyatt uses the English Standard Version, a literal translation, in our services because of its accuracy and clarity.
